Tell us about one of your favorite farm projects.
“I recently completed the photos for my next book, The California Farm Table Cookbook. This project allowed me to travel to 40 farms and food producers in California and photograph their work. The book will publish in Summer 2024 with The Countryman Press.”
Why do you work with farmers?
“I began my career working in nutrition and agriculture for the Cooperative Extension Service in Kentucky which sparked my passion for supporting farmers and producers. Today I work producer-to-plate capturing images to share where food comes from while helping to promote the missions and values of our farms and farmers. One of the three pillars of my photography is Better System. I enjoy working with and supporting those who are creating a better system for the foods we eat and goods we consume.”
What’s in your kit?
“I believe in making minimal impact to capture the most natural scenes on a farm. I photograph with natural light. I have a scrim for harsh light control, a few props for styled food, a tripod just in case, a camera and a back up as well as multiple lenses when I'm on farm. I typically work alone, but welcome collaboration.”
What’s your lighting setup?
“I work with natural light both outside and inside the studio.”
Is your business insured?
“Yes.”
