Not sure if one of current our openings is a fit, or missed the window for this one? Tell us about yourself!
Our team is growing! We intend to add 2 new marketing consultant roles in early 2025, and 3 new leadership positions in late 2025/2026.
Responsibilities
This is a take-charge marketing generalist role. The position takes ownership of projects and client relationships, from the initial request through to the completed deliverable.
Most of our clients are small family farms, food hubs, and other local food businesses who need our help building their image, being found online, and increasing their sales. We also serve local food non-profits, government agencies, and partner-based initiatives with more communication-oriented needs (think buy-local campaigns, farm to school, state food charters, etc.).
We’re a tiny, efficient team, so each of us works directly with clients, and there’s much less division of labor than you would find in a typical agency.
Responsibilities will include:
Execute many of your clients’ projects hands-on, and take ownership of other projects while collaborating with teammates to complete items that fall outside your skillset. Projects will include marketing planning, advertising, website development, SEO, social media, email/SMS marketing, branding, and others. You’ll have support from teammates who specialize in the areas where you don’t.
Proactively manage project timelines; take ownership of details, planning and ripple effects; coordinate items needed from clients; and manage ongoing client communication in line with Grapevine standards.
Develop a strong understanding of our project management system, and set up and manage projects there in accordance with company standards and processes.
Manage project budgets to ensure profit.
Answer inquiries from current clients, prospective clients, and partner consultants. Develop marketing plans, identify solutions for client needs, create scopes of work, develop proposals, and provide partner consultants with supporting content for grant applications.
May serve as advisor to junior teammate, and co-advise/train peers as needed.
Provide coaching for clients who want to build their in-house marketing skills.
Play an active role in continuous improvement of internal processes, task templates, systems, and documentation.
Collaborate with the team to support Grapevine’s own marketing and development of packages and service lines.
Depending on the interest and experience this person has, there will also be an opportunity to expand the role to other areas, including specific marketing sub-specialties, team leadership, and operations.
Advancement opportunities: We plan to fill new leadership roles (Marketing Team Director, Web Team Director, Strategy/Operations Director) from internal candidates in 2025 and 2026.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a creative critical thinker who enjoys getting to know clients and inventing solutions from a blank slate when needed.
If you appreciate having processes and systems in place, relish digging in to solve a challenge, and enjoy taking charge and knocking out tasks and projects, you’ll probably love it here. If you struggle with focus, motivation, or procrastination, this is not the job for you.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - These are required
At least 3 years of strong professional experience independently managing projects and/or accounts, including running meetings; proactively managing client communication; thinking through project steps, planning ahead, and anticipating ripple effects and related needs
Skilled at problem-solving, inventing creative solutions even when there is no template to follow, and turning fuzzy sets of needs or objectives into concrete plans
Ability to be very present in the moment, listen thoughtfully, ask questions, and remember details, whether in team or client conversations
Strong ambition, enthusiasm, and client service mindset
Technical skills — we’re looking for folks with at least 4 of the following:
Comprehensive marketing strategy & planning
Website planning and project management (sites of > 10 pages)
SEO
Google ads
Meta ads (not just boosts, but full ads, with placement customization)
Google Analytics 4 (not previous versions)
Expertise developing detailed quotes, proposals, or grant applications independently
Email marketing and social media for business use
Copywriting (at a professional level, with engaging examples and strong command of English grammar and punctuation)
Because Grapevine team members can work from anywhere, they need reliable high-speed wifi; a workspace and schedule that enable blocks of uninterrupted time to focus on work; the drive to be productive on their own; and a professional background view for client video conferencing.
Preference will be given to candidates with passion and/or experience in farming or local food.
Potential Crossover Roles - Bonus Qualifications
This laundry list represents the broad range of possible crossover roles. Experience in any of these is a bonus, but is not required!
Adobe InDesign
Brand development
Business operations
Email/SMS automations

Website design, coding (html, css, liquid), or production

Unlike salaried positions, you’re paid for every hour you work, and you’ll choose your max hours per week in order to maintain work-life balance. We all work remotely, and our official work week is 4 days, Monday - Thursday, with the understanding some of us may need to work 2 - 6 Fridays per year as needed (e.g. a challenging project, or because a great client needs us and we want to take good care of them, etc.).
Objective compensation:
We developed a unique system that integrates with our project management tool to automatically calculate profit per project (based on hours input and other expenses), so your contribution to the bottom line can always be calculated objectively. This makes it easy for the company to reward a high level of productivity, and to justly recognize the increased efficiency that develops over time as you build your experience.

About Working at Grapevine Local Food Marketing
We are:
Inclusive & anti-racist
Listeners, creators, & collaborators
Joyful in our work
Committed to helping small farms grow
Super productive
We’ve served over 100 clients since our launch in 2016 with a strong record of referrals and client testimonials.
It is our sincere intention to make Grapevine a triumphant enterprise for everyone involved.
We want our clients to get a good value for what they pay for our services — so it's well worth their investment and their business grows as a direct result of working with us.
We want every teammate to feel like they're paid a fair rate that recognizes their value and rewards their unique contributions to the company.
We want work-life balance to be the default. Each of us has different needs for day-to-day schedule and ideal weekly hours worked.
We want to achieve an enjoyable work environment for every teammate — one in which people look forward to starting work each day, really love what they do, and enjoy their coworkers.
We want to create opportunities for fulfilling work, ongoing growth, and role evolution for every teammate.
We believe achieving these goals requires a balance of several factors: prices we charge clients; rates we pay teammates; creative ideas that add to the overall value; purposeful internal structure and processes; clear, ego-free internal communications; a high level of productivity for every teammate; and an approach that empowers every teammate to take the lead in owning projects and driving the company forward.
Remote work is a benefit for many of us, but it can also be a challenge. We’re always working on this challenge! Solutions that are currently in place include 1:1 calls for all new teammates to get to know current teammates; regular 1:1 calls; collaboration via our project management system, IM, and impromptu video calls; paid social calls and group activities; and an emphasis on open communication.
