I spent the first part of my life exploring creativity through the performing arts. I especially loved singing and pursued a career in opera. I studied vocal performance at UC Irvine and CSU Northridge, performing professionally in the United States, Europe, and Mexico. Studying music cultivated bravery and the ability to think creatively while maintaining essential structures.
I began my career in food at North Coast Fisheries, which was the largest seafood processor and distributor in Northern California, giving me the opportunity to learn many aspects of whole animal processing, sanitation, distribution, costing, recipe development and sustainable sourcing. In my nearly 10 years with North Coast Fisheries, I helped develop value-added product lines for Costco, expanded our food service account base, and led our team through complex food safety and sourcing audits.
In June of 2011 I founded and launched Siren Fish Co., the first publicly available Community Supported Fishery (CSF) on the West Coast. I learned firsthand the particular marketing and logistics issues facing community supported agriculture and fisheries models. In 2014, we launched an on-demand web store and began shipping fresh and live seafood nation-wide. I sold Siren Fish Co. in 2016 and learned a lot about exit planning along the way. In the following years, I have led teams in the food and tech spaces as we developed software platforms to serve small food businesses.
I love exploring Northern California with my three children. I am a passionate supporter of self-advocacy for autistic children and adults. Music remains an integral part of our family life, both performing and enjoying it. I keep a flock of laying hens at our home in Sacramento, and our two cats mostly leave them alone. I am endlessly curious about all things related to food.
