Affordable Gear for Farm Videos
In our webinar, DIY Farm Videos, we talked about these tools you can use to help you edit, optimize, and share your own farm videos online.
Gear
We recommend the following accessories to improve video quality of smartphone videos. You can get everything on this list for less than $200.
Tripod
To stabilize your camera while you’re not holding it, consider buying a tripod. Any traditional tripod with a smartphone mount will work, but for making videos on a farm, we also love more versatile options like the Gorillapod. It fits in tighter spaces, can attach to bars or poles, and is easy to carry around with you.
Stabilizer
It’s really tough to get a smooth picture if you’re filming while walking or riding a vehicle. A video with lots of jolting motion can be distracting and even difficult for your audience to watch! For any handheld camera work, a gimbal stabilizer or steadicam-like device will do wonders for capturing nice, smooth motion.
Lens Cloth
Your camera’s lens is made of high quality optical glass that can be easily damaged. To keep it in good shape so that you can continue to get the best picture quality possible, it’s important to use a special microfiber lens cloth to clean it. This will wipe away dust and dirt without scratching the glass. Grab a pack like this so that you always have a clean one on hand.
Dry Bag
To keep your gear safe and all in one place, use a brightly-colored dry bag. It will save your video-making gear from dust, irrigation, dogs, and compost juice, among other daily hazards. Bonus tip: print your name on the dry bag for when you can’t remember which field vehicle you left it in!
